I provide a range of writing and editorial services – copy-editing, proofreading, indexing – for online and print publication.
Editing: In some cases, all that’s needed is a light edit where I add or remove a word here or there, improve punctuation to clarify meaning, and give the text a general polish. But in other cases, the copy may need to be heavily edited or completely re-written.
Proofreading: This is usually the last stage in the production process. I give the text a final read-through to check for any remaining spelling, punctuation or grammatical errors and formatting inconsistencies (e.g. bold text when it should be italics), and to spot problems with the page layout.
Indexing: An index, usually found at the back of non-fiction books like reference books or biographies, helps readers to find specific references within that book. I can compile indices of varying degrees of complexity whatever the subject matter. I specialise in humanities subjects – literature, history, biography, religion, philosophy.
How it works
From an initial discussion/e-mail correspondence, we will decide together what level of work you need. It is helpful if you can send me a sample of what you need done, and an indication of the number of words involved. I will then give you a quotation and suggest a timescale.
I’m quite happy to edit or proof a small sample free of charge (and with no obligation) so you can see what I can do. For indexing projects, I can send examples of my previous work.
